After being annexed by the city in 1910, the community of Tuxedo was officially established in 1929. As such, the community, which is situated just three kilometers north of the city center, is one of the oldest of Calgary's communities. Today, the community is still home to numerous historical sites, including a three-story farmhouse that was the first home built in the area. Bound to the north by 32 Avenue, to the south by 16 Avenue, to the east by Edmonton Trail and to the west by 2 Street, the Tuxedo community provides residents with direct access to the city centre via Centre Street.
Thanks to the community's convenient location in the midst of the area's central park, residents have ample opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreational activities. Not only is there an ice rink within the central park, but the park offers residents a variety of playground equipment pieces to enjoy as well. The community centre, which is capable of holding up to 135 people within its main hall, also hosts a number of events throughout the year. These include the Breakfast with Santa, Oktobofest and the popular Canada day celebration, which includes music, crafts, a buffet and appearances from prominent politicians.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Tuxedo community may attend the public schools of Mount View, Buchanan, King George and Rosemont or the Catholic schools of St. Joseph and St. Pius. Both St. Pius and King George offer French Immersion programs. Junior high school students may attend the public school of George P. Vanier, which offers a French Immersion program, or the Catholic schools of St. Joseph and Madeleine d'Houet. High schools serving the Tuxedo community include the public schools of Crescent Heights, James Fowler and William Aberhart and the Catholic schools of St. Francis and St. Mary's. Both William Aberhart and St. Francis offer French Immersion programs. Show Less...
