Established in 1959, the community of Southwood is located near to the community's of Willow Park, Haysboro, Braesie and Canyon Meadows. Bound to the north by Alley north of Springwood Drive and Southland Crescent, to the south by Anderson Road, to the west by 14 Street and to the east by Macleod Trail, the community of Southwood consists primarily of single-family residential homes. Thanks to the community's location near to major transportation routes and the L.R.T. system, residents of Southwood enjoy easy access to the Downtown area. At the same time, residents of the Southwood community can easily enjoy a variety of recreational opportunities, as the Glenmore Reservoir and Fish Creek Provincial Park are both located near to the community.
While residents of Southwood are located near to a number of city amenities and outdoor recreational opportunities, the community also offers many amenities closer to home. The community association, for example, is capable of holding up to 130 people in the main hall. The facilities also feature a sound system, a stage, meeting rooms, an indoor fireplace, a lounge and a standard kitchen. Residents also enjoy access to an outdoor skating rink and sports fields.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Southwood community may attend the public schools of Ethel M. Johnson or Chinook Park, with Chinook Park offering a French Immersion program. The Catholic elementary schools of St. Stephen and St. Gerard also serve the community, with St. Gerard offering a French Immersion program. The public junior high schools of Harold Panabaker and Elboya also serve the community, with Harold Panabaker serving 7th and 8th grade students and Elboya serving 9th grade students. Both schools offer French Immersion programs. The Catholic junior high schools of St. Stephen and Ecole St. Matthew also serve the community. High school students may attend the public school of Dr. E.P. Scarlet, which offers a French Immersion program, or the public school of Bishop Grandin. Show Less...
