After being annexed by the city of Calgary in 1961, the community of Whitehorn was officially established in Whitehorn in an area to the southeast of Calgary International Airport. With a large Chinese and East Indian population, the Whitehorn community is recognized as one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the city of Calgary. Bound to the north by McKnight Boulevard, to the south by 32 Avenue, to the east by 52 Street and to the west by 36 Street, the community of Whitehorn connected to the city through the LRT line as well as major roadways.
Thanks to the location of the Whitehorn community, residents enjoy easy access to the Calgary bike path system as well as the Village Square Leisure Center. Closer to home, the community association offers a wide variety of program options that are designed to appeal to its diverse group of residents. Some of the groups hosted within the community centre include the Ismali 250th Scout Troop, Muslim groups, the East Indian Dholma Garaba Dance Troup and the Immigrant Women's Association. Karate classes, dance classes, craft fairs, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides are also offered through the community centre.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in real estate for sale in the Whitehorn community may attend the public schools of Colonel J. Fred Scott, Chief Justice Milvain and Mayland Heights or the Catholic school of St. Wilfrid. Of these four schools, Mayland Heights is the only one to offer a French Immersion program. The public junior high schools of Annie Gale and Bob Edwards and the Catholic junior high schools of Father Scollen and St. Martha also serve the community, with Bob Edwards and St. Martha offering French Immersion programs. The public high school of Lester B. Pearson, which offers a French Immersion program, also serves the community. Those who prefer to send their children to a Catholic high school may choose from the private schools of Bishop McNally and St. Mary's. Show Less...
