Aptly named after the book Walden written by Henry David Thoreau, the community of Walden offers an abundance of open space, a clearwater pond and a naturalized wetland. The community is characterized by its scenic backdrop and the ample opportunity it provides to its residents to enjoy the great outdoors. With the community's numerous pathways, residents can enjoy the simple life as they leave behind their cars and travel by foot or bike. Given the beautiful surroundings coupled with the attractive homes and idyllic location, it is easy to understand why Walden is quickly becoming one of the most popular communities in south Calgary.
While Walden boasts rich natural surroundings and a peaceful lifestyle, residents still enjoy easy access to the city of Calgary and all that it has to offer. Situated on the southern edge of the City of Calgary, the community is bound to the east by the Bow River Valley, to the west by Macleod Trail and to the south by the community of Legacy. In all, the community covers 620 acres of space and consists of three "villages." The community is also home to a 160 acre park system as well as a nine-hole golf course, providing residents with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the peaceful tranquility the outdoors provides.
Children who live in the Walden community have a number of different educational opportunities available to them. Public schools include the elementary school of Woodbine School, the junior high school of Woodman School and the high school of Dr. E.P. Scarlett Senior High. Schools with French Immersion programs available within the community include Sundance Elementary, Fairview Junior High School and Dr. E.P. Scarlett Senior High. The community is also served by several Catholic schools with regular programs and with French Immersion programs. Show Less...
