As part of an area known as the Crossroads, the Vista Heights community was established in 1962. The entire Crossroads area, which is bound to the north by McKnight Boulevard, to the south by Memorial Drive, to the east by Barlow Trail and to the west by Deerfoot Trail, also consists of the communities of Mayland Heights and Belfast. Thanks to the location of the Vista Heights community, its residents enjoy easy access to the Calgary International Airport as well as excellent views of the Downtown Calgary area and of the Rockies.
Although the Vista Heights community was not established until 1962, it was annexed to the city more than 50 years before in 1910. With the community's long history of development, it contains numerous churches, malls, restaurants and even a city-owned golf course. The Crossroads community association is also quite active, offering dinner theatre activities, tours, potlucks, bingo, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts and other activities for residents to enjoy.
Children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Vista Heights community may attend one of four different elementary schools. These include the public schools of Vista Heights and Mayland Heights and the Catholic schools of Holy Redeemer and St. Alphonsus. Both Mayland Heights and Holy Redeemer offer French Immersion programs. Junior high schools serving the Vista Heights community include the public schools of Colonel Macleod, Sir John Franklin and Bob Edwards and the Catholic schools of St. Martha and St. Alphonsus. Both St. Martha and Bob Edwards offer French Immersion programs. The public high schools of Crescent Heights and Lester B. Pearson also serve the community, with Lester B. Pearson offering a French Immersion program. Those who prefer to send their children to a Catholic high school may choose to send their children to the Catholic schools of St. Francis and St. Mary's, with St. Francis offering a French Immersion program.
