Established in 1954, the community of Thorncliffe is bound to the north by 64 Avenue, to the south by McKnight Boulebard, to the east by Deerfoot Trail and to the west by 14 Street and the east alley of Norfolk Way. Thanks to its location at the easterly base of Nose Hill Park and to the south of the community of Huntington Hills, the community of Thorncliffe provides residents with ample opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

Served by the Thorncliffe-Greenview Community Association, the residents of Thorncliffe have a wide variety of activities to select from throughout the year. Groups that make use of the community centre, which can hold up to 800 people within its main hall, include Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, Tai Chi, Fitness and Parents and Tots. Special activities that are hosted by the community centre include craft fairs, bingo nights, dances, and wine and cheese gatherings. The community association also provides residents with access to a number of recreational facilities, including a 4-lane bowling alley, a baseball diamond, a hockey rink, a tobogganing hill and a playground.

Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Thorncliffe community may attend the public elementary schools of Thorncliffe, Catherine Nichols Gunn and Highwood or the Catholic elementary schools of Corpus Christi and St. Pius. Both Highwood and St. Pius offer French Immersion programs. The Thorncliffe community is also served by three public junior high schools, including Sir John Macdonald, George P. Vanier and Colonel Irvine, with George P. Vanier offering a French Immersion program. The Catholic junior high schools of St. Helena and Madeleine d'Houet serve the community as well. Public high schools serving the Thorncliffe community include John G. Diefenbaker, James Fowler and William Aberhart, with the latter offering a French Immersion program.
