Located to the south of Fish Creek, the community of Shawnessy was established in 1981. The community got its name from the British settler Samuel Shw, who built a log house in the area that dates back to 1882. Today, the community's northern boundary is formed by Shawnessy Boulevard, while the southern boundary is formed by 162 Avenue, the eastern boundary is formed by Macleod Trail and the western boundary is formed by 14 Street.
Those who are interested in living in the Shawnessy community will find that the community consists primarily of single-family housing. Nonetheless, the area has enjoyed some commercial development, such as the Shawnessy Town Centre located at the eastern edge of the community. Residents also enjoy direct access to the Downtown area thanks to the Shawnessy LRT station and the MacLeod Trail. Closer to home, residents may use the community association facilities, which house meeting rooms, an indoor fireplace, a kitchen and a gym and is capable of holding up to 120 people within the main hall. They may also utilize the association's tennis courts and outdoor skating rink.
