After being annexed to the city in a process that began in the 1960s and took several stages to complete, the community of Scenic Acres was established in 1981. Located just 14 kilometres from the city center, the community is bound to the north by Crowchild Trail, to the south by Bow River, to the east by Nose Hill Drive and to the west by Stoney Trail. As such, residents of the Scenic Acres community enjoy easy access to a variety of shopping centres and restaurants as well as open fields and recreational opportunities at places such as the nearby Paskapoo Slopes, Bow Valley corridor and Rocky Mountains.
In addition to providing residents with easy access to a number of nearby amenities and recreational opportunities, the Scenic Acres community also boasts a very active community association. At the community centre, which is capable of holding up to 125 members within its main hall, residents may participate in activities such as Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, sports programs, aerobics, dance and yoga. The centre also hosts annual events such as the Stampede Breakfast and the Christmas Craft Sale. Facilities made available to residents through the community association include an indoor skating rink, sports fields, beach volleyball courts and a hockey rink.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in real estate for sale in the Scenic Acres community may attend the public schools of Scenic Acres School, Arbour Lake and Varsity Acres, with Varsity Acres offering a French Immersion program. The Catholic elementary schools of St. Sylvester, Msgr. Doyle and St. Luke also serve the Scenic Acres community. Junior high schools serving the community include the public schools of Arbour Lake and Branton and the Catholic schools of St. Vincent de Paul and Madeleine d'Houet, with Branton being the only one to offer a French Immersion program. The public high schools of Bowness and William Aberhart also serve the community, as does the Catholic high school of St. Francis. Both William Aberhart and St. Francis offer French Immersion programs. Show Less...
