After being annexed in two stages, one in 1975 and another in 1979, the community of Sandstone was established in 1982. Served by the same community association as neighboring MacEwan, the area is bound to the north by Country Hills Boulevard, to the south by the north boundary of Nose Hill Park and Berkshire Boulevard, to the east by Beddington Trail Boulevard and to the west by Shaganappi Trail. In addition to being located near to a variety of recreational attractions, the Sandstone community provides residents with access to a skating rink and a hockey rink while also hosting a variety of activities and events throughout the year. Available youth programs include Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, youth hockey and youth soccer. The community association also hosts annual events such as the Stampede Breakfast while also providing a range of services to residents.
Children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Sandstone community may attend one of four different elementary schools. These include the public schools of Simons Valley and Highwood and the Catholic schools of Msgr. Neville Anderson and St. Pius. Both Highwood and St. Pius offer French Immersion programs. The Sandstone community is also served by four junior high schools, including the public schools of Simon Fraser and George P. Vanier and the Catholic schools of St. Margaret and Madeleine d'Houet. Among these four schools, only George P. Vanier offers a French Immersion program. The Sandstone community is also served by the public high schools of Queen Elizabeth and William Aberhart, with the latter offering a French Immersion program.
