Once consisting primarily of agricultural development, the community of Saddle Ridge was established in 1960. Today, the community is bounded to the north by 96 Avenue N. to the south by McKnight Boulevard, to the east by 68 Street E and to the west by 36 Street E. As such, the community is situated to the north of Martindale and Taradale and to the east of the Calgary International Airport. Despite becoming an established community so long ago, Saddle Ridge still remains a low-density residential area that offers residents a convenient location combined with relative seclusion.
Featuring a wetland pond surrounded by interpretive pathways, the Saddle Ridge community provides residents with plenty of opportunity to commune with nature. At the same time, the community features soccer fields, baseball diamonds and other recreational opportunities for residents to enjoy. The community also features a commercial hub, which has formed around the Saddletown Circle. The western portion of the community, on the other hand, is referred to as Saddle Ridge Industrial and has been earmarked for further commercial and light industrial development.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Saddle Ridge community may attend the public schools of Saddle Ridge School, Marlborough and Mayland Hieghts or the Catholic schools of Light of Christ, Msgr. Hetherington and St. Wilfrid. Mayland Heights offers a French Immersion program. The community is also served by the public junior high school of Bob Edwards and the Catholic junior high schools of Light of Christ, John XXIII and St. Martha. Both St. Martha and Bob Edwards offer French Immersion programs. High schools serving the community include the public high schools of Crescent Heights and Lester B. Pearson, with the latter offering a French Immersion program. For those who prefer to send their children to a Catholic high school, the private school of Bishop McNally serves the community as well.
