Established in 1982, the community of Riverbend is bound to the north by Glenmore Trail, to the south by Douglas Glen Community Association, to the east by 24 Street and to the west by the Bow River. Aptly named due to its location near the bend of the Bow River, the Riverbend community provides its residents with easy access to a variety of recreational opportunities. Featuring three distinct landscapes, including escarpment, floodplain and upland plain, the community provides residents with excellent vies of the Rockies as well as the wooded flood plains. At the same time, the community is located near to several of the city's major roadways, including Deerfoot Trail, Glenmore Trail and Barlow Trail. As such, Riverbend residents are within only a short distance from all of the amenities the Downtown Calgary area has to offer.
Closer to home, residents of Riverbend are served by an active community association that offers something for people of all ages. Programs offered through the centre include a Jazzer Tots program, martial arts, dance, Jazzercise, group fitness, Tae Bo, yoga, aerobics and strength training classes. A variety of activities also take place in the community, including Youth Justice, first aid, Toastmasters, Girl Guides and Boy Scouts. Recreational facilities available to residents include a skateboard park, an outdoor skating rink and sports fields.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Riverbend community may attend the public schools of Riverbend and Sam Livingston and the Catholic schools of Holy Angels, St. Cecilia and St. Mathew, with both Sam Livingston and St. Cecilia offering a French Immersion program. Junior high schools serving the community include the public schools of Fairview and Sherwood and the Catholic schools of St. Augustine and St. Mathew, with only Fairview offering a French Immersion program. High schools serving the community include the public schools of Central Memorial and Western Canada, which both offer a French Immersion program, and the Catholic school of Bishop Grandin.
