Named in honor of the area's rich ranching heritage, the Ranchlands community was annexed to the city of Calgary in1961. It wasn't until 1977, however, that the community was officially established. Consisting primarily of single-family dwellings, the Ranchlands community is bound to the north by John Laurie Boulevard, to the south by Crowchild Trail, to the east by Sarcee Trail and to the west by Nose Hill Drive NW. As such, the community is located within a foothill region that offers attractive views as well as a location that is conveniently near to a variety of recreational opportunities.
Aside from being located in an area that is relatively close to the Downtown Calgary area, the Ranchlands community also provides residents with access to a variety of recreational facilities. The community centre, which is capable of holding up to 150 people within its main hall and features a standard kitchen, regularly hosts events and activities throughout the year. Some of these include a youth justice program, a seniors program, dance classes and a variety of sports. Recreational facilities made available to residents include an outdoor skating rink, sports fields and tennis courts.
Children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Ranchlands community may attend one of four different elementary schools, including the two public schools of Ranchlands and Varsity Acres and the two Catholic schools of St. Rita and St. Luke. Of these four schools, Varsity Acres is the only one to offer a French Immersion program. The public junior high schools of H.D. Cartwright and Branton also serve the community, with Branton offering a French Immersion program. Those who wish to send their children to a Catholic school may choose the private junior high school of St. Jean Brebeuf or Madeleine d'Houet. The Ranchlands community is also served by two high schools, the public school of William Aberhart and the Catholic school of St. Francis, with both offering a French Immersion program. Show Less...
