Despite having been annexed to the city of Calgary in 1961, the Queensland community was not established until 1973. Situated near the Bow River, the community of Queensland is bound to the north by Anderson Road and Deerfoot Trail, to the south by Canyon Meadows Drive, to the east by Bow River and to the west by Bow Bottom Trail. While the community is comprised primarily of single-family homes, it does feature some multi-family dwellings. At the same time, in order to maintain the natural characteristics of the area, the entire escarpment within the community that overlooks the river has been designated as public space available to the public. In addition to enjoying the river and the open space, residents of the Queensland community may also enjoy the ample recreational opportunities that are available in nearby Fish Creek Provincial Park.
Even closer to home, residents of the Queensland community enjoy access to the community centre, which is capable of holding up to 360 people within its main hall. The centre also features meeting rooms, a stage, an outdoor barbecue, a standard kitchen and a gym. A variety of events and activities take place each year within the centre and elsewhere within the community, including a Youth Justice program, seniors programs, fitness classes, bingo and sports activities. Recreational facilities available to residents include tennis courts, sports fields and an outdoor skating rink.
Children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Queensland community may attend the public elementary schools of Queensland Downs, Haultain Memorial and Sam Livingston or the Catholic elementary schools of Don Bosco and St. Cecilia. Both Sam Livingston and St. Cecilia offer French Immersion programs. The Queensland community is also served by the public junior high schools of Wilma Hansen and Fairview as well as the Catholic junior high schools of Don Bosco and Ecole St. Matthew, with both Fairview and Ecole St. Matthew offering French Immersion programs. High school students who live in the Queensland community may attend the public schools of Lord Beaverbrook and Dr. E.P. Scarlett or the Catholic school of Bishop Grandin. Of these schools, Dr. E.P. Scarlett is the only one to offer a French Immersion program. Show Less...
