Situated on the south slope of the Bow River Valley escarpment, the community of Point McCay was established in 1911. Originally part of the town of Montgomery before it was annexed to the city in 1963, the community is part of the association that covers an area that is bound to the north by 32 Avenue, to the south by the Bow River, to the east by Shaganappi Trail and to the west by the Bow River. Thanks to the community's location, residents can easily enjoy access to a variety of recreational activities, including those found at the Bow River. Across the river, Edworthy Park offers hiking and biking trails as well as opportunities to commune with nature.
Served by the Montgomery Community Association, the community of Point McKay provides residents with a number of recreational opportunities and facilities that are even closer to home. The centre, which is capable of holding up to 300 people within its main hall, features meeting rooms, a stage, a gym and a commercial kitchen. Recreational facilities include an outdoor skating rink and a hockey rink. The community is also home to Shouldice Arena, Shouldice Memorial Pool and Shouldice Park, which features ample green space as well as a creative playground.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Point McKay neighborhood may attend the public schools of University and Banff Trail or the Catholic schools of Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Pius. Both Banff Trail and St. Pius offer French Immersion programs. Junior high schools serving the community include the public high schools of Queen Elizabeth and Branton, the latter of which offers a French Immersion, and the Catholic schools of Our Lady of the Assumption and Madeleine d'Houet. The public high schools of Queen Elizabeth and William Aberhart and the Catholic high schools of St. Francis and St. Mary's also serve the community, with William Aberhart and St. Francis both offering French Immersion programs.
