After being annexed to the city of Calgary in 1961, the community of Parkland was finally developed 13 years later in 1974. Situated adjacent to Fish Creek Provincial Park, the aptly-named Parkland community is bound to the north by Canyon Meadows Drive, to the south by Fish Creek Provincial Park, to the east by Bow Bottom Trail and to the west by Fish Creek Provincial Park. In addition to enjoying easy access to the nearby Fish Creek Provincial Park, the community also features a 20 meter wide strip of open space that provides public access to the park. The Downtown Calgary area may also be easily reached via Macleod Trail, Bow Bottom Trail and Canyon Meadows Drive.
Thanks to the location of the Parkland community, residents enjoy panoramic views of the river, the meadows and ancient trees. Residents may also access a variety of facilities at the community centre, which is capable of holding up to 90 people within its main hall. The community centre also features a standard kitchen, meeting rooms and a gym. Residents of the Parkland community enjoy several opportunities to participate in community events and activities throughout the year. Some of these include an annual Halloween party, a Winter Festival, parades, Brownies, Karate classes and community-wide garage sales.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in real estate for sale in the Parkland community may attend the public schools of Prince of Wales Elementary School and Sam Livingston or the Catholic schools of St. Philip and St. Cecilia, with both Sam Livingston and St. Cecilia offering French Immersion programs. Junior high schools serving the community include the public schools of Wilma Hansen and Fairview and the Catholic schools of St. Bonaventure and Ecole St. Matthew, with both Fairview and Ecole St. Matthew offering French Immersion programs. Public high schools serving the Parkland community include Lord Beaverbrook and Dr. E. P. Scarlett, with the latter offering a French Immersion program. For those who wish to send their children to a Catholic high school, the Catholic school of Bishop Grandin also serves the community. Show Less...
