Despite having been annexed to the city in 1910, the community of Parkdale was not established until 1948. Nonetheless, a house dating back to 1910 that once belonged to Ezra Rile, who was the son of the successful pioneer rancher Thomas Riley, can still be found in the community. Today, the community consists of low-density residential dwellings and is bound by the Foothills Hospital Site to the north, the Bow River to the south, 28 Street to the east and Shaganappi Trail NW to the west. Thanks to this location, residents of the Parkdale community enjoy easy access to the Downtown Calgary area via Parkdale Boulevard as well as the city's pathway system.
Residents who prefer to stay closer to home will find that the community centre is capable of holding up to 253 people within its main hall. The centre, which regularly hosts activities and events throughout the year, includes a commercial kitchen, sound system and an outdoor barbecue. The centre also features an outdoor skating rink and sports fields.
