Twelve years after the area was annexed to the city in 1956, the community of Oakridge was officially established to the south of the Glenmore Reservoir. The official boundaries of the community include 90 Avenue to the north, Southland Drive to the south, 24 Street to the east and Oakmount Drive to the west. Thanks to the community's location, residents enjoy easy access to a number of natural attractions. Some of these include the Weaselhead Flats area, Heritage Park, Glenmore Park, hiking trails and the pathway. For the water lover, numerous boat docks are also located in the area, while the Heritage Park Historical Village located on the peninsula is a major recreation attraction.
In addition to being located near to a number of recreational opportunities, the community of Oakridge also provides residents with access to recreational activities that are even closer to home. The community centre, for example, is capable of holding up to 150 people in its main hall. The centre also features tennis courts and a hockey rink and it regularly hosts a number of activities throughout the year. Activities that take place through the community association include dance, fitness, bingo and a variety of youth sports programs.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Oakridge community may attend the public school of Louis Riel or Chinook Park, with Chinook Park offering a French Immersion program. Junior high schools serving the community include the public schools of Louis Riel, Harold Panabaker and Bishop Pinkham as well as the Catholic schools of St. Cyril and Ecole St. Matthew.
