Located near to the community of Cliff Bungalow, the community of Mission offers a rich history that dates back to the 1800s. In 1883, the area now known as Mission was developed into a small French-speaking community after having been homesteaded by Fathers Lacombe and Leduc. At this time, the area was referred to as Rouleauville. After an Irish bishop arrived at the local parish, the name was changed and the community was officially annexed in 1900 and was established in 1907. Today, the community is bound to the north by 17 Avenue, to the south by Elbow River, to the east by 1 Street and to the west by College Lane and Royal Avenue.
Thanks to the location of the Mission community, residents of the community enjoy easy access to all that the Calgary area has to offer. Not only are a number of restaurants and shopping facilities available nearby, but so is Lindsay Park and the Bow River. The community association also hosts a number of events each year while also providing residents with access to an outdoor skating rink.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Mission community may attend the public schools of Rideau Park or William Reid, with William Reid offering a French Immersion program. Families that prefer a Catholic school may choose to send their children to St. Monica or Holy Name, with Holy Name also offering a French Immersion program. Junior high schools serving the area include the public schools of Rideau Park and Elboya as well as the Catholic schools of St. Monica and St. Michael. Those who are interested in a French Immersion program will want to attend Elboya. High schools serving the community include the public high school of Western Canada, which offers a French Immersion program, and the Catholic school of St. Mary's. Show Less...
