Established in 1962, the community of Mayland Heights is bordered on the north by McKnight Boulevard, on the south by Memorial Drive, on the east by Barlow Trail and on the west by Deerfoot Trail. The community is one of three communities found in what is known as the Crossroads area, with the other communities being Belfast and Vista Heights. Although the area that is now home to Mayland Heights was annexed in 1910, it took more than 50 years before the area started to be developed. Today, the community consists of both residential and industrial areas. Therefore, there are plenty of employment opportunities available within the community, particularly for those who are interested in working in restaurants or retail establishments. The nearby Vista Heights community also features a city-owned golf course as well as a kids golf course.
The community association serving the Mayland Heights community is quite active, as it holds numerous events throughout the year. Some of these events include bingo, potlucks, dinner theatre activities, crafts and kids sports. The centre also holds annual events, such as the popular Stampede breakfast.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Mayland Heights community attend school at Belfast Elementary School or Mayland Heights Elementary School, with the latter offering French Immersion programs. The community also offers two Catholic schools, including St. Alphonsus and Holy Redeemer, with the latter offering French Immersion programs. Junior high schools include Colonel Maleod, Sir John Franklin and Bob Edwards junior high schools, with Bob Edwards offering French Immersion programs.
