After being annexed to the city in 1956, the community of Mayfair was established in 1957. Today, the community is bordered to the north by the Calgary Golf & Country Club, to the south by Glenmore Trail, to the east by Elbow Drive and to the west by Glenmore Reservoir. Thanks to the community's location near to the Glenmore Reservoir, Heritage Park, the pathway and the Calgary Golf and Country Club, residents of the Mayfair community enjoy access to a variety of recreational activities. At the same time, with the Downtown area being just 6 kilometers to the north of Mayfair community, residents do not have to travel far if they want to enjoy all of the restaurants, retail establishments and other amenities the Downtown area has to offer.
In addition to being located near to outdoor recreational opportunities and the Downtown area, the community of Mayfair also provides residents with access to tennis courts, sports fields and an outdoor skating rink. A variety of activities also take place within the communities. The community is also located near to a number of open spaces, including Lincoln Park and the Elbow River Valley. For the more adventurous, the Rocky Mountains are also located nearby.
Children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Mayfair community may attend one of three public elementary schools. These include Chinook Park, Elboya and Willliam Reid, with Elboya and William Reid offering French Immersion programs. Two Catholic elementary schools are also available to residents of Mayfair, these include St. Augustine and St. Gerard, with St. Gerard offering a French Immersion program. Junior high students living in the Mayfair community attend the public school of Elboya, which offers a French Immersion program, or one of two Catholic junior high schools. These include St. Augustine and Ecole St. Matthew. The public high schools of Henry Wise Wood and Western Canada also serve the community, as does the Catholic high school of Bishop Grandin.
