Lower Mount Royal Homes For Sale

Established in 1907, the community of Lower Mount Royal is bordered to the north by 17 Avenue, to the south by Council Way and 10 Street, to the east by College Lane and Royal Avenue and to the west by 14 Street. After being annexed to the City in 1907, the Lower Mount Royal community became part of the original C.P.R. subdivision of Mount Royal. Shortly after, the area developed quite rapidly and has been well-maintained ever since.

Due to the long history of the Lower Mount Royal community, many of the homes are quite old and distinctive. Having once been the home to many of the city's most elite residents, the community earned a reputation for being an exclusive residential district during the building boom of 1910. Having been divided into fifty foot lots, the Lower Mount Royal community consisted primarily of homes built from wood and stucco rather than the brick and sandstone found in Mount Royal. Many of these lots were later subdivided into twenty-five foot lots as the community changed to accommodate its rapid growth. While the commercial areas have increased significantly throughout the community, the Area Redevelopment Plan has served to slow down this growth in order to meet both community and city objectives.

Children whose parents are interested in real estate for sale in the Lower Mount Royal community may attend Earl Grey elementary or William Reid elementary, which offers a French Immersion program. For those who prefer to attend a Catholic school, the elementary schools of St. Monica, Sacred Heart and Holy Name also serve the area, with Holy Name also offering a French Immersion program. Junior high schools serving the community include the public schools of Mount Royal and Elboya, with Elboya offering a French Immersion program, and the Catholic schools of St. Monica and St. Michael.
