Located just to the north of Fish Creek Park, the community of Lake Bonavista boasts two man-made lakes: Lake Bonaventure and Lake Bonavista. Bound to the north by Anderson Road, to the south by Canyon Meadows Drive, to the east by Alley of Lake Wapta Rise and to the west by Macleod Trail, the Lake Bonavista community offers a great location for those who want to be close to outdoor recreational opportunities without being too far away from city amenities. Not only do the Lake Bonaventure and Lake Bonavista offer plenty of opportunity for recreation, but the community is also located near to the Southland shopping centre as well as Deerfoot Trail.
Established in 1967, the Lake Bonavista community is served by a very active community association. Many activities and events are hosted by the association throughout the year, including yoga and fitness classes, soccer, basketball and hockey. The association also offers tennis lessons as well as canoeing lessons on Lake Bonavista. Recreational facilities maintained by the association include a community centre capable of holding up to 400 people within its main hall, a fitness studio, a gym and two skating rinks.
Lake Bonavista Estates provides residents with access to all of the community's amenities while also providing residents with convenient location near to a number of recreational and city amenities. While the Lake Bonavista community is bound to the south by Canyon Meadows Drive, to the north by Anderson Road, to the west by Macleod Trail and to the west by Alley of Lake Wapta Rise, the Lake Bonavista Estates development is located in the centre of the community. Thanks to this location, residents enjoy easy access to Downtown Calgary area via Deerfoot Trail.

Elementary-aged children in Lake Bonavista may attend the public schools of Lake Bonavista, Andrew Sibbald, Nickle and Sam Livingston or the Catholic schools of St. Philip, St. Boniface, St. William and Ecole St. Matthew. Both Sam Livingston and Ecole St. Matthew offer French Immersion programs, while Lake Bonavista and Andrew Sibbald serve only Kindergarten through fourth grade students. The public junior high schools of Nickle and Fairview also serve the community, as do the Catholic junior high schools of St. Bonaventure and St. Cecilia. Both Fairview and St. Cecelia offer French Immersion programs. High school students who live in the Lake Bonavista community may attend the public school of Dr. E.P.
