Established in 1954, the predominantly single-family residential community of Highwood is bound to the north by McKnight Boulevard, to the south by 40 Avenue, to the east by 4 Street and to the west by John Laurie Boulevard. Thanks to the community's location on gently rolling foothills, many residents enjoy magnificent views. Regardless of the location of the home within the community, all residents are provided with easy access to a variety of nearby outdoor recreational opportunities and facilities. Some of these include Nose Hill Park, Confederation Park and the extensive pathway system.
In addition to the numerous amenities and recreational opportunities that are found near the community of Highwood, residents of the community also enjoy access to the community centre. The centre, which is capable of holding up to 190 people within its main hall, features meeting rooms, a stage, a gym and a standard kitchen. The community association provides residents with access to a number of recreational facilities, including an outdoor skating rink, an outdoor swimming pool and sports fields. The centre also regularly hosts seniors programs, dance classes, sports events and other activities throughout the year.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the Highwood community may attend the public schools of Highwood or Cambrian Heights or the Catholic schools of St. Joseph and St. Pius. Both Highwood and St. Pius offer French Immersion programs. The public junior high schools of Colonel Irvine and George P. Vanier also serve the Highwood community, with the latter offering a French Immersion program. Catholic junior high schools serving the community include St. Margaret and Madeleine d'Houet. The Highwood community is also served by two public high schools, James Fowler and William Aberhart, and two Catholic high schools, St. Francis and St. Mary's. Both William Aberhart and St. Mary's offer French Immersion programs. Show Less...
