After being annexed by the city of Calgary in 1956, the community of Fairview of established three years later in 1959. Today, the community is bound to the north by Glenmore Trail, to the south by Heritage Drive, to the east by Blackfoot Trail and to the west by Macleod Trail. While most of the community is residential, the eastern portion of the city is comprised of an industrial park.
Residents of the Fairview community enjoy access to a variety of activities and events that are provided by the Fairview Community Association. Some of the events offered through the association include community parades, garage sales, a Spring Fling clean up, crafts sales and Christmas light tours. The association also advocates on behalf of residents on a variety of issues, including zoning regulations and traffic concerns. While the Fairview Arena is no longer operated by the association, residents still enjoy access to the arena for events and rental. Similarly, while the Fairview Hall is no longer available for private bookings, it now houses the In-Definite Arts program, which is an art program for those with developmental disabilities.
Elementary-age children whose parents are interested in real estate for sale in the Fairview community may attend the public schools of Acadia, LeRoi Daniels, Sam Livingston and Fairview and the Catholic schools of Ecole St. Matthew and St. Cecilia. The schools of Sam Livingston, Fairview, Ecole St. Matthew and St. Cecilia all offer a French Immersion program. The Fairview community is also served by the public junior high school of Fairview, which offers a French Immersion program, and the Catholic junior high school of Ecole St. Matthew. High school students who live in the Fairview community may attend the public high schools of Lord Beaverbrook and Dr. E.P. Scarlett and the Catholic high school of Bishop Grandin.
