Situated to the north of the community of Dalhousie and founded in 1978, the community of Edgemont is edged by steep escarpments and at a higher elevation that the surrounding communities. As a result, Edgemont is exposed to more wind than its neighboring communities, but also offers exceptional views of the City as well as the mountains. Often considered to be a northwest extension of Nose Hill, the community of Edgemont is bound to the north by Country Hills Boulevard, to the south by John Laurie Boulevard, to the east by Shaganappi Trail and to the west by Sarcee Trail.
Residents of the Edgemont community enjoy easy access to a variety of recreational opportunities located both in and outside of the community. At the community centre, residents can utilize the skating rinks, tennis courts, pathways and playgrounds that are made available to residents. The community centre, which is capable of holding up to 200 people within its main hall, also hosts a variety of activities and events throughout the year. Some of these include yoga classes, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, gymnastics and Kung Fu. Youth sports, such as soccer, basketball, hockey and softball are also offered via the community association.
Elementary-aged children whose parents are interested in homes for sale in the community of Edgemont may attend the public schools of Edgemont, Captain John Palliser or Banff Trail, with Banff Trail offering a French Immersion program. The Catholic elementary schools of Mother Mary Greene and St. Luke also serve the community. Public junior high schools serving Edgemont include Tom Baines and Branton, with the latter offering a French Immersion program. Catholic junior high schools serving the community include St. Jean Brebeuf and Madeleine d'Houet. High schools serving Edgemont include the public schools of Sir Winston Churchill and William Aberhart as well as the Catholic school of St. Francis.
