Get started with a conversation today about your real estate needs in Downtown West End and the Calgary real estate market.
Established in 1884, the Downtown West End area is bound to the north by Bow River, to the south by the CPR tracks, to the east by 9th Street SW and to the west by 14th Street SW. Considered to be the commercial core of the downtown area, the Downtown West End community feature the highest density of financial, commercial and retail activity in the area. At the same time, the community does offer residential housing as well as a variety of amenities for residents to enjoy.
Due to the long, rich history of the Downtown West End area, the community still features many of its original sandstone buildings as well as more modern buildings such as the Stephen Avenue Mall. Similarly, the old grid pattern of streets and avenues that was established in 1884 and initiated by the sale of properties, still remain in place today. Residents of the area also enjoy spending time in the many open spaces, including the Devonian Gardens and Olympic Plaza. Thanks to the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system and the +15 pedestrian system, residents also enjoy easy movement throughout the downtown area.
Children of parents interested in real estate in the downtown area may attend one of two different elementary schools. These include Connaught/Kingsland and William Reid, the latter of which offers a French Immersion program. Junior high students may also attend one of two public schools. Elboya Junior High offers a French Immersion program, while the public school of Mount Royal does not. High school students who live in the Downtown West End community attend Western Canada, which also offers a French Immersion program. The city and its surrounding communities also offer a wide variety of private and or Catholic schools to select from. Therefore, families have many options available to them in terms of education.
