After being annexed in 1961, the community of Dover was officially established in 1971. Named after historic alderman and environmentalist Mary Dover, the community is bound to the south by 26 Avenue, to the south by Peigan Trail, to the east by CNR Mainline and to the west by Irrigation Canal. Due to its convenient location, the community of Dover provides its residents with excellent views of the city and the Rocky Mountains while also remaining conveniently near to the Bow River Valley as well as a number of parks.
Closer to home, the Dover community is served by an active community association offering a variety of activities to residents. Annual events that take place in the community include a Halloween party, an Easter party, Breakfast with Santa and Dover Days, which includes a parade, carnival games, floats, rides and a petting zoo. The Dover community association also hosts after school programs, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, dances, soccer, hockey and t-ball. The community association has also established parks within the community that provide residents with access to a number of beach volleyball courts, a baseball diamond, soccer fields and more.
Children with parents interested in homes for sale in the Dover community may attend the public elementary schools of Valley View, West Dover, Harold W. Riley and Mayland Heights or the Catholic schools of Holy Cross and Holy Redeemer. Both Mayland Heights and Holy Redeemer offer French Immersion programs. Junior high schools serving the community include the public schools of Ian Bazalgette and Bob Edwards and the Catholic schools of Holy Cross and St. Martha, with both Bob Edwards and St. Martha offering a French Immersion program. The public high schools of Forest Lawn and Lester B. Pearson also serve the community, as does the Catholic high school of Father Lacombe. Lester B. Pearson is the only one of these three schools to offer a French Immersion program. Show Less...
