Despite having been annexed in 1961, the community of Deer Ridge was not established until 1978. Today, Deer Ridge is a primarily single-family residential community that is bound to the north by Canyon Meadows Drive, to the south by the north side of Deersaxon Circle and Deerfield Drive, to the east by the escarpment east of Deercliff Road and to the west by the Bow Bottom Trail. Due to its location, residents enjoy easy access to Fish Creek Provincial Park via the pathway system, Bow Bottom Trail and Canyon Meadows Drive. The Downtown area is also located nearby, at just 15 kilometers northwest of the community.
While the Deer Ridge community does not currently have a community centre, the community association does maintain a community swimming pool, sports fields and an outdoor skating rink. The community also hosts a variety of activities and events throughout the year, including seniors programs, child care programs, a youth justice program and youth sports.
Parents of children who are interested in homes for sale in the Deer Ridge community may also attend one of several elementary schools. These include the public elementary schools of Queensland Downs, Deer Run and Sam Livingston and the Catholic elementary schools of Don Bosco and St. Cecilia. Both Sam Livingston and St. Cecilia offer French Immersion programs. The Deer Ridge community is also served by the public junior high schools of Wilma Hansen and Fairview, with the latter offering a French Immersion program. Residents who wish to send their children to a Catholic school may choose to send them to the Catholic junior high schools of Don Bosco and St. Matthew. Public high schools serving the Deer Ridge community include Lord Beaverbrook and Dr. E.P. Scarlett and the Catholic high school of Bishop Grandin. Dr. E.P. Scarlett is the only one of these three schools to offer a French Immersion program. Show Less...
