Despite having been annexed by the City of Calgary in 1910, the community of Collingwood was established in 1959. Served by the Triwood community association, which is bound by John Laurie Boulevard to the north, Morley Trail and Cochrane Road to the south, Charleswood Drive and 26 Street to the west and 14 Street to the east, the community of Collingwood is located near to a variety of recreational opportunities and facilities. Some of these include Canmore Park, Nose Hill Park, John Laurie Boulevard and Confederation Park Golf Course.
The Triwood community association has a reputation for bringing many "firsts" to Calgary. For example, the association was the first to build an arena in the area and was the first to bring the sport of Ringette to the city. Today, Ringette continues to be a major attraction within the community centre.
The Triwood community association was also the first to bring a seniors slo pitch team to the city. Other facilities available to residents include a ball diamond, indoor and outdoor skating rinks and a community centre capable of holding up to 225 people within its main hall. The centre also hosts a number of activities and groups, including Seniors Tai Chi, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, bingo and dog training.
Parents of elementary-aged children who are searching for homes for sale in the Collingwood community may attend the public school of Capitol Hill or Banff Trail, with Banff Trail offering a French Immersion program. They may also attend the Catholic elementary school of St. Luke or St. Joseph. Junior high schools serving the Collingwood community include the public schools of Senator Patrick Burns and Branton, with Branton offering a French Immersion program, and the Catholic schools of St. Margaret and Madeleine d'Houet.
