Despite having been annexed by the city in 1956, the area that is now the Cedarbrae community did not develop into the community it is today until 1973. Bounded to the north by Southland Drive, to the south by Anderson Road, to the east by 24 Street and to the west by Tsuu Tina Reserve, the community provides its residents with ample opportunity to participate in a wide variety of recreational activities. For residents of the Cedarbrae community, opportunities for indoor and outdoor recreation abound. Not only is the community located near to Glenmore Park and Fish Creek park, but the Southland Leisure Center is also located nearby. Chinook Park offers a French Immersion program, as does the Catholic elementary school of St. Gerard. The Cedarbrae community is also served by three public junior high schools, including Louis Riel, Harold Panabaker and Elboya. Harold Panabaker, which serves students in grades 7 and 8, offers a French Immersion program. The same is true of Elboya, which serves 9th grade students. Two Catholic schools, St. Cyril and Ecole St. Matthew, also serve junior high students in the Cedarbrae community. High school students who live in Cedarbrae may attend the public schools of Henry Wise Wood or Dr. E.P. Scarlet, the latter of which offers a French Immersion program.
