Established in 1948, the community of Capitol Hill underwent most of its development in the 1950s. Nonetheless, some of the homes date back as far as the 1920s. Today, the community is bound to the north by Confederation Park, to the south by 16 Avenue, to the east by 10 Street and to the west by 19 Street and 24 Avenue. Thanks to the community's location, residents enjoy easy access to a number of Calgary's recreational facilities and other institutions, including Confederation Park, the University of Calgary and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. With the Downtown Calgary area being located less than 5 kilometres away, residents can also take advantage of all of the amenities the Downtown area has to offer.
Those who are interested in living in the Capitol Hill community will find that the area is mostly comprised of single-family dwelling units, some of which have been converted to include basement suites as well. Residents also enjoy access to the community centre, which is capable of holding up to 150 people within the main hall. The community centre features meeting rooms, a commercial kitchen, a lounge, a stage and an outdoor BBQ. The association also maintains an outdoor skating rink and sports fields for residents to enjoy.
