Despite having been annexed to the City of Calgary in 1910, the area that is now the community of Britannia did not experience any significant development until the late 1950s. In fact, Britannia was not established until 1956. Today, the community is bounded to the north by Britannia Drive, to the south by 50 Avenue, to the east by Elbow Drive and to the west by Elbow River. Thanks to the community's great location, residents enjoy fantastic views of the Rocky Mountains, the Elbow River Valley and the city.
As the name of the community suggests, Britannia offers a British theme that can be found throughout. Even its streets, with names such as Edinburgh Boulevard, Coronation Drive and Elizabeth Road, reflect the British theme. At the same time, the community's close proximity to Stanley Park, the pathway system and River Park make it a good option for those who are interested in enjoying an abundance of outdoor recreational activities. With the city's downtown area being just 4 kilometres to the north, residents can also take full advantage of the numerous amenities the downtown area has to offer. The community itself also features sports fields and an outdoor skating rink.
Those interested in homes for sale in the Britannia community have several school options available to select from. The public elementary schools of Elboya and William Reid, for example, both offer French Immersion programs, as does the Catholic elementary school of St. Gerard. The Catholic elementary school of St. Augustine is also available to residents of the Britannia community. The public junior high school of Elboya offers a French Immersion program, while the Catholic schools of St. Augustine and Ecole St. Matthew also offer services to junior high students. High school students who live in the Britannia community may attend the public schools of either Henry Wise Wood or Western Canada, the latter of which offers a French Immersion program. For those who are interested in the Catholic high school, Bishop Grandin is the available high school for Britannia residents. Show Less...
