Established in 1960, the community of Bel-Aire is located just east of where the Glenmore Reservoir is drained by the Elbow River. As such, the community is bound to the west by the Glenmore Reservoir and to the east by Elbow Drive. The community's northern boundary is formed by the Calgary Golf & Country Club, while the southern boundary is formed by Glenmore Trail.
While the Bel-Aire community was annexed to the city in 1954, major development didn't begin for another six years. Since then, the community has become a popular option for those searching for homes and who wish to enjoy the area's natural beauty and recreational opportunities while still remaining near to the amenities the downtown area has to offer. Thanks to its location, the community provides beautiful views of the city, the Elbow River Valley, the Rocky Mountains and the Glenmore Reservoir. The community also boasts many open spaces, including Glenmore Reservoir, Lincoln Park and the pathway. Yet, despite the natural beauty of the area, the community is located just 6 kilometres south of downtown. The community itself also offers tennis courts, sports fields and an outdoor skating rink for residents to enjoy.
Elementary-aged children who live in the Bel-Aire community may attend one of two public schools, Elboya and Chinook Park, both of which offer French Immersion programs. Separate schools serving elementary children in the community include St. Augustine and St. Gerard, with the latter offering a French Immersion program. Junior high students attend Elboya, which offers a French Immersion program, or one of two separate schools: St. Augustine and Ecole St. Matthew. High schools serving the community include Henry Wise Wood and Western Canada, with Western Canada offering a French Immersion program. The Catholic or separate school of Bishop Grandin also serves high school students in the community. Show Less...
