Annexed to the City of Calgary in 1910, the community of Banff Trail was established in 1952. Since then, this primarily residential community has experienced a great deal of growth, including the creation of the commercial center of Motel Village in the southwest portion of the community. Today, the Banff Trail community is bound to the north by Morley Trail and Cochrane Road, to the south by 16 Avenue, to the east by 19 Street and 24 Avenue and to the west by Crowchild Trail. Thanks to the community's location, residents enjoy easy access to the LRT as well as to a number of recreational facilities and institutions. These include the McMahon Stadium, the University of Calgary, the Alberta College of Art and Confederation Park.
As home to one of the oldest community associations, the real estate in Banff Trail enjoys access to a number of well-established programs and facilities. Facilities made available to residents include two skating rinks and a baseball diamond. Activities that take place within the community centre, which is capable of holding up to 100 people within the main hall, including cribbage, Monday Evening Music James and a Ladies Auxiliary. Community members also enjoy spending time at the Community Garden and participating in the popular Stampede Event.
Elementary-aged children who live in the Banff Trail community may attend the public school of Capitol Hill or Banff Trail, with Banff Trail offering a French Immersion program. Catholic or separate elementary schools serving the community include St. Joseph and St. Pius, with the latter offering a French Immersion program. The public junior high schools of Senator Patrick Burns and Branton also serve the Banff Trail community, with Branton offering a French Immersion program. Separate junior high schools serving the Banff Trail community include St. Margaret and Madeleine d'Houet.
